Portuguese literature on the march towards the Bologna Children’s Book Fair

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair, an annual and international meeting point for literature and illustration for the young, begins today in Italy and will be attended by Portuguese authors, publishers, and illustrators.

For more than a decade at the fair, the General Directorate of the Book, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB) has revealed that it will again have its own space and dissemination of the book for children and youth, and will highlight the book “It’s not difficult at all “, which earned Madalena Matoso the National Illustration Award.

About 80 Portuguese books will be exhibited in the DGLAB space for the youngest published over the last year, and there will be room to spread the organization’s current incentives to internationalization.

As part of the annual program to support illustration and BD, DGLAB reports that since 2005 more than 300 works have been published in 31 different countries.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair will celebrate the 56th edition, from Thursday to Thursday, with an extensive program of conferences, debates, book presentations, business rights meetings, and illustration exhibitions.

The annual exhibition of the fair will feature this year with works by Portuguese illustrators André Letria and Carolina Celas, among the 76 selected.

Every year, the fair also awards prizes for excellence in literary production. It has already been announced that “Atlas of travel and explorers”, by Isabel Minhós Martins and Bernardo P. Carvalho, won the award for best non-fiction book.

The Portuguese publisher Orfeu Negro is nominated for the prize for best European publisher.

At the fair, the winner of the Swedish literary prize Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is announced on Tuesday, to which the authors are named Bernardo P. Carvalho, Catarina Sobral, Luísa Ducla Soares, Maria Teresa Maia Gonzalez, and the Andante Association Artistic.

According to DGLAB, the book fair will be attended by the publishers Planeta Tangerina, Logical Duck, Orfeu Negro, Edicare, Horizon Books and Lello Bookstore.
