President of Estonia visits Portugal next week
Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid will pay a state visit to Portugal early next week with a “multifaceted program” that will provide an opportunity to address issues of common interest between the two countries.
According to a note released today on the Presidency’s website, the visit of Kersti Kaljulaid, which is being held at the invitation of the Portuguese Head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will take place on 16 and 17 April.
“This visit, organized around a multifaceted program, will illustrate the importance of the bilateral relationship, as well as the potential for its deepening. It also provides an opportunity to address issues of common interest between the two countries in the European and international “, is mentioned in the note.
On the first day of the visit, the President of Estonia will be met by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa with military honours, in Praça do Império, in Lisbon, followed by a meeting between the two heads of state at the Belém Palace.
After a lunch hosted by the prime minister, António Costa, Kersti Kaljulaid will be received by the president of the Assembly of the Republic, visiting next, on an electric tour, “some of the most emblematic neighbourhoods and streets of Lisbon.”
Prior to dinner at Palacio da Ajuda, hosted by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Estonian President will also meet with the Minister of the Presidency and Administrative Modernization “on digital solutions applicable to governance“.
On the second and final day of the visit, Kersti Kaljulaid, who will be accompanied by business and academic delegation, will visit the Champalimaud Foundation and chair the opening session of the Economic Seminar on Digital Economy. A relocation to the headquarters of two Estonian technology companies based in Portugal is also planned.
