The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, today congratulated the athlete Nelson Évora for the achievement of the Silver Medal in the final of the Triple Jump competition of the European Indoor Track Championships held in Scotland.
“Another medal for the athlete’s impressive curriculum and one more reason for the Portuguese to rejoice and be proud of those who represent them in the most diverse fields of activity around the world,” says Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in a note published on the Internet page of the presidency of the Republic.
Nelson Evora won the silver medal on Sunday in the triple jump of the European Indoor Track and Field Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
With a jump of 17.11 meters, his best record of the season, the Portuguese jumper got his 11th medal in major competitions and finishes the season as the third best European of the year on covered track.
The winner of the contest was Azeri Nazim Babayev, with 17.29 meters, which is what happens to Evora, champion of 2015 and 2017.
The bronze medal was won by the German Max Hess, with 17.10 meters.
The list of the best of the year closes with the Portuguese Pedro Pichardo in first (17,32), who still can not officially compete for Portugal, Babayev and Évora in the ‘top-3’.
