Rally of Portugal had the impact of 138 million in the national economy in 2018

The Portuguese Rally generated a direct impact of 138.3 million euros (ME) on the Portuguese economy in 2018, estimates a study commissioned by Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP), released on Wednesday.

According to the Study of the Impact of the Portuguese Rally on Economy and Tourism, half of the return was verified indirect expenditure by supporters and teams in the region where the ACP race was held: 72.9 ME, plus 1.7 ME to 2017, registering a new record in the impact that the event causes annually in the country.

The ACP estimates that the relevance of the Portuguese Rally to the economy since 2007, when the race returned to the world championship, “recorded 1,173 ME in an aggregate perspective, a contribution that no other sporting event or tourism organized annually in the national territory reaches”, the club announced in a statement.

According to the same study, conducted by the International Center for Research in Territory and Tourism of the University of Algarve, in view of the volume and type of spending of the fans, “it is possible to estimate that residents and tourists with expenses related to the Rally of Portugal 2018 provided the State a gross tax revenue exceeding 20 million euros (VAT and ISP), representing 28.7% of taxes compared to total direct expenses.

In 2019, the Rally of Portugal runs from May 30 to June 2.
