Sporting ties with Rio Ave and it is the third time this season that they cannot beat the Vila do Conde team.
The game of the 21st round of the Portuguese League, between Rio Ave and Sporting, ended in a draw, 1-1 with goals by Lucas Piázon in the 2nd minute and in the 84th minute by Jovane Cabral.
With this tie, Rio Ave maintains fifth place with 32 points, just after Sporting, with 35 points, now in fourth place, overtaken by Braga who went to Estádio da Luz, to beat leader Benfica 1-0.
Rio Ave now has a draw and two wins with Alvalade’s team this season, and once again Coates was sent off.
The home team had several opportunities in the first half in which Sporting did little or nothing, except for the ball on the bar by Kieszek by Eduardo, Rio Ave went to the break with an early goal by Lucas Piázon, but could have gone with a superior advantage, were it not some inefficiency in the shot, or Luís Maximiano’s effectiveness.
The second half was more balanced, and after the entry of Jovane Cabral, Sporting improved in the attack, but maintained defensive weaknesses. Coates in the 71st minute was sent off on the second yellow, and when it looked like Rio Ave was going to beat Sporting for the third time this season, Bolasie suffers a foul in the area and Jovane Cabral, who from a penalty ties the game.
