The judoka Rochele Nunes won today the bronze medal in the category of +78 kg of the Grand Slam of Paris by judo, conquering the only ‘metal’ of the Portuguese entourage in the event.

The Portuguese beat, in the fight for third place, the Tunisian Nihel Cheikh Rouhou, by ‘ippon’, after both had already scored a ‘waza ari’, in the sixth match of the day for the Portuguese judoka.

Before that, two other judokas missed the bronze in the repechage, after reaching the semi-finals, cases of Bárbara Timo (-70 kg) and Anri Egutidze (-81 kg), who ended up qualifying in fifth place.

Egutidze, on the other hand, registered three wins by ‘ippon’ to reach the semi-finals: against Robin Pacek (Sweden), Etienne Briand (Canada) and Kamoliddin Rasulov (Uzbekistan), before losing also by ‘ippon’ against Belgian Matthias Casse, already in the ‘socks’.

Against the Canadian Antoine Valois-Fortier, the Portuguese tried to reach the medal in 6.31 minutes but ended up giving ‘ippon’ to the opponent.
