Rui Almeida Paiva wins Matilde Rosa Araújo Prize with ‘Who comes there?’

The tale ‘Who’s there?’, By the Portuguese writer Rui Almeida Paiva, won the Matilde Rosa Araújo 2018 prize for the Lusófono contest in Trofa, worth 2,000 euros, the municipality announced today in a statement.

The prize for Best Original Illustration, worth 1,500 euros, was awarded to Maria do Rosário Castanheira Alexandre Pinheiro da Silva, while Guilherme Semionato Silva Alves, from Brazil, won the Lusofonia Prize, worth 1,000 euros, with the short story ‘O marriage of Til and Cedilla ‘.

In this edition of the Lusophone Contest, four honorable mentions were also awarded: to the author Stélio Baltazar Elias Manjate, from Mozambique, for the story ‘O sapinho do poço’, to the writer Ana Nanque, from Guiné Bissau, for the story ‘O Sol dura’, Timorese Natalia Emanuel Soares Magno, for the story ‘Buibere and the two trees in love’, and the Cape Verdean author Kátia Cristina Fernandes Teixeira, for the story ‘A bem beloved cat!’.

The winners of the various categories of the contest were unveiled on November 18, during the commemorations of the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Municipality of Trofa, at the former Trofa Railway Station.

The competition Lusófono da Trofa, which has the partnership of Camões – Institute of Cooperation and Language, was attended by a group of students of the 4th year, the School of Paradela and the Orquestra de Ritmos Ligeiros da Trofa, as well as the writer Jorge Velhote and Ana Isabel Soares from Instituto Camões, members of the Final Jury of the Competition.
