Seven players of the ‘top 100’ in the ‘qualifying’ of the Estoril Open

The qualifying round of the fifth edition of the Estoril Open will be attended by seven top-100 players from the world ranking on April 27 and 28 at the Estoril Tennis Club.

Pablo Andujar (70th ATP), Bolivian Hugo Dellien (76th), Bernard Tomic (79th), Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas (83rd), Argentine Guido Andreozzi (90th) , British Daniel Evans (91st) and American Bradley Klahn (93rd) did not guarantee entry into the main table and were forced to play the Portuguese ATP 250 qualifier.

Among the 16 players on the qualifying grid, two of whom will enter the wild card, the Australian youth Alexei Popyrin, 19, who reached the third round of the Australian Open, and the return of the Spanish Roberto Carballes-Baena, who, in 2018, only lost to the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.

After the lowest cut-off ever to the main frame (the last one to enter was in the 64th place of the ATP ranking), the batch of entries for the qualifying phase is also very strong, with João Domingues (221st ATP) and Gastão Elias (302st) to stand out, ranking 15th and 23rd, respectively, in the list of substitutes.

João Sousa, champion in title, and Pedro Sousa, who received an invitation to play for the fifth edition of the Estoril Open, which will take place between April 27 and May 5, at the Estoril Tennis Club, are already guaranteed.
