Silves is a Portuguese city in the Faro District, region and sub-region of the Algarve, with about 6 300 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 680.06 km² in area and 37 126 inhabitants, subdivided into 6 parishes. The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipality of Ourique, northeast by Almodôvar, east by Loulé, southeast by Albufeira, southwest by Lagoa, west by Portimão and Monchique and northwest by Odemira and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean. .
It belongs to the Cittaslow Cities network.
In recent years the number of tourists visiting the municipality has been increasing substantially, especially as a cultural tourism destination.
