The program includes a portal that promotes producers and artisans of the event, a classical music concert, a special edition of the São Brás Fashion show and the SIC’s Special Summer Domingão.
In a particularly challenging year and dominated by social distance, due to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus COVID19, in the impossibility of holding the Feira da Serra, in the usual way, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, aware of the importance of the event for the community and for the local economy, prepared a special edition – #Feira Da Serra em Casa, with an alternative program that favours digital media and brings all the tradition to the home of its visitors, maintaining its main objective: making known the best of the genuine Algarve.
The alternative program, which will run from July 23 to 26, on the dates when the 29th edition of the Serra de São Brás de Alportel Fair should be held, was presented to the public at a press conference this Thursday, 16 July, at Parque da Azinheira Património, next to the EN2.
“We want to take the Feira da Serra to the whole world”, said the Mayor of São Brás de Alportel, Vitor Guerreiro, pointing particularly to the potential of the digital aspect of this edition, which may open the “appetite” to new visitors from the most different corners of the world, to visit the next edition in normal format, which is expected to take place in July 2021.
“Feira da Serra will return next year and with more strength!”, He stressed, recalling that at a time when difficulties in the economic sector are beginning to be felt, the Municipality has been trying to find creative and alternative ways to give notoriety to the municipality, valuing and boosting various economic sectors without ever forgetting the issue of public health.
In the continuity of the various alternative cultural programs that were created, such as # Easter at Home, the “Dias de Abril em Casa”, after digital events such as the “Gala São Brás a Cantar” that was transmitted through networks and the MEO Kanal of the Municipality, the Feira da Serra #EmCasa appears, which, according to the Vice-President, Marlene Guerreiro, has had the gift of animating and dynamizing the participants and the community that is enthusiastically joining, both in the “Feira da Serra On-Line” catalogue as in the digital version of “São Brás Fashion”, a parade that maintains its essence completely “Made in São Brás de Alportel”, which, being unable to take the stage at Feira da Serra, takes the models and products from São Paulo stores linked to fashion (footwear, opticians, jewellery, clothing and other accessories) at everyone’s home, in a parade that will be complemented by 18 mini parades, individualized by stores.
Marlene Guerreiro explained to journalists that this alternative plan is part of the Global Program “São Brás Acontece em Casa”, and is part of the Local Economy Support axis, one of the pillars of the Action Plan – Municipal Emergency Fund, following a number of the set of measures that have been launched by the municipality, seeking to stimulate the most diverse economic sectors of the municipality.
Ana Fernandes, director of ACRAL – Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve, praised the initiative of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel and all the effort in supporting the São Bras trade that has a lot of quality. An initiative that for Ana Fernandes will certainly be a “push”, namely in terms of online sales and orders.
This Special Edition of São Brás Fashion will be broadcast on social media and on Meo Kanal 205 250, on July 25, starting at 9:30 pm, the day and time when this parade would take place on the main stage of the Feira da Serra enclosure.
But the program kicks off next Thursday, July 23, at 7 pm, with the launch of the digital catalogue “Feira da Serra em Casa” on social networks (Facebook and Instagram) and on the Feira da Serra website where we can find about a hundred artisans and producers, usually present at the event.
Because there is no Feira da Serra without music, on Friday, July 24, at 9:30 pm, Cine-Teatro São Brás hosts the Summer Concert of the Classical Southern Orchestra. An event that to guarantee the safety rules of the entities health officials, entry is restricted to 60 people. Tickets are already on sale, for seven euros, at the Municipal Gallery of São Brás de Alportel and will be sold on the same day at the Cineteatro ticket office, starting at 8:30 pm.
The last day of this special edition of Feira da Serra #EmCasa is different and will be broadcast live on SIC. Between 2:45 pm and 8:00 pm, the program “Domingão Sucessos de Verão” by SIC, which has the particularity of having a mobile stage, will pass through the roads of the municipality and will have the motto to honour the Master Craftsmen. Handicrafts, sweets, local production, tradition and innovation from São Paulo will be highlighted at the same time that everyone will be able to enjoy moments of joy and well-being in safety.
A special edition in an atypical year, but which is also the “launching pad” for the tourist promotional campaign “Go out here, Really!” that the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel is preparing to attract the Portuguese, the Algarve in particular, as well as the tourists present in the region and especially residential tourism so that they can get to know São Brás de Alportel and enjoy the best that the municipality and its people have to offer.
Medronho will be the star product of the next edition of the Serra de São Brás de Alportel Fair
Investment and resources redirected to public works and Municipal Emergency Fund
The investment of the Serra de São Brás de Alportel Fair, which in normal editions is around 200 thousand euros and the human resources that were dedicated to the assembly of what is the largest fair in the municipality, was redirected this year.
Municipal employees have been assigned to new tasks that may involve painting a school to other initiatives that would normally be awarded to outside companies. However, councillor Acácio Martins stressed that exactly to give a boost to the economy, the Municipality that at the beginning of the confinement suspended public works in progress to promote the safety of workers, is now launching some works that were not even planned for this year, precisely because of the importance of public investment in economic dynamics, seeking to pursue the objective of giving an ever-higher quality of life to the population of São Paulo.
A large part of the money that would normally be invested in setting up Feira da Serra was transferred to the Municipal Emergency Fund – COVID, which was created with half a million euros, as explained by President Vitor Guerreiro, a fund that has three areas of intervention: prevention and strengthening of means to combat the spread and health care, social measures and support for families and support for the local economy.
