Sporting beats Santa Clara in Alvalade
This Friday, Sporting took a step forward towards the goal of securing third place in the national championship by beating Santa Clara 1-0, allowing them to maintain the three-point advantage over the most direct stalker, Sporting de Braga.
The team coached by Rúben Amorim had more ball than the opponent (66% against 34%), but again showed difficulties in the creation chapter, being excessively predictable and with no ability to unbalance.
Santa Clara chose to hand over the game initiative, controlling the advances of the Leon side, Stefan Ristovski and Nuno Mendes, and seeking to explore the transitions, but rarely creating danger.
The only goal of the match was scored by Jovane Cabra, in the 67th minute, after Wendel’s cross.
A game sufficient for Sporting to hold third place, now with 59 points, three more than Sporting de Braga, just three days before the end of the season. Santa Clara is tenth, with the same 38 points as Boavista.
