Study shows that only 24% of Portuguese feel safe leaving their children in daycare

The context of the pandemic and the new normal has brought back old habits and the preference for full-time nurses over a kindergarten or day care is one of them.

A survey carried out by Fixando concluded that only 24% of Portuguese people feel safe leaving their children in these places that they believe comply with all the standards recommended by the General Directorate of Health.

The demand for babysitting grew 377% compared to the previous year, and one of the respondents’ priorities is that this service can be done full time, the survey reveals.

In this increase in demand, we highlight the first half of August, traditionally the holiday season, when demand overrides supply.

In the study carried out by the platform, it is estimated that each family pays on average 210 € per child in daycare centers, while the hourly price for a babysitting service is around 8 €, varying if it is a monthly service, which can go from 160 at 840 €, depending on the number of children, hours per day and whether it is a private nanny or with more children.
