The first feature film by Cabo Verdean director and producer Samira Vera-Cruz, “Sukuru”, is now available, free, on Youtube.
“For a long time we hesitated to share Sukuru on the Internet, despite many requests, given its technical problems, which are a consequence of a lack of funding and equipment,” wrote Parallax Produções producer Samira Vera-Cruz on his page at Facebook.
At a time when everyone should be at home to protect themselves and everyone else, they decided to promote this film as a way of “sharing more art and culture”. This film, according to Samira, talks about hidden and taboo issues in Cabo Verde, namely the issue of mental health and drug addiction.
Sukuru is a psychological thriller that tells the story of Jiló, a young schizophrenic, addicted to crack, and his struggle with drug addiction, his mother and his demons.
The movie has already been screened in Cabo Verde, where it won an honorable mention from the jury at the Plateau – International Film Festival, in Belgium, where it made its world premiere, in Mozambique, in Brazil and in Macau.
