Despite all the uncertainties that the pandemic state has brought, it is important to continue an assiduous and diversified cultural program, adapted to the new public health and safety requirements, in response to the public’s need to return to watch theater, dance , concerts and other artistic manifestations.
In the year in which it celebrates its 15th anniversary, the Teatro das Figuras, whose emergence as a stage capable of responding to the greatest technical demands that the shows demand came to change the local and regional artistic panorama, is today a reference in the national artistic programming and succeeds in spite of the atypical times we live in, maintain the fundamental proposals foreseen since the beginning of the year.
This is the case of the Dance, Dance, Dance festival that takes place in September; the recreation of the Beethoven Akademie 1808 concert in October; and the community projects Teatro de Vizinhos e Cortes de Faro in November, a month that also hosts the preview of the play Atlântico by Tiago Cadete, which opens later at the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II.
In September, the contemporary dance festival Dance, Dance, Dance will take place, which will present three fundamental moments: RITE OF DECAY, by Joana Castro, on the 19th; the premiere of the co-production of Teatro das Figuras and Espaço do Tempo of the play DEN.TRO by Maria Fonseca on the 24th; and the show Duet by Diana Niepce, on the 26th.
Before, from the 7th to the 15th of September and within the scope of the Summer Blue Festival, of which the Teatro das Figuras is co-producer, the residence of Miguel Boneville for the creation of the play The Importance Of Being by Alan Turing, with an open rehearsal on the 15th A September 16,
The Englishman Peter Kember, better known as Sonic Boom presents the show All Things Being Equal which, immune to external trends, does not give in to the weight of time in ten almost orchestral electronic songs, born from an armada of modular and analog synthesizers.
Note also the fact that the parallel programming of the online lectures Vidas Com Arte, which started in the quarantine and aims to make known the artistic and creative paths of artists with established credits but also of new emerging artists, is maintained.
On September 25 the guest will be the dancer, choreographer and writer Diana Niepce, on October 14 the choreographer Victor Hugo Pontes and will end on November 16, with the essential director Ricardo Pais.
Music is of course the highlight of October, with the concerts Carta a Amália by Júlio Resende on the 1st, marking World Music Day and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Amália Rodrigues and Camané and Mário Laginha on the 16th.
Note also for the premiere of the co-production with LAMA – Laboratory of Arts and Media of the Algarve, of the youth theater play Romeu e Romeu, on the 15th, for the presentation of the play Turma de 95 by Raquel André, of which Teatro das Figuras is co-producer and for the recreation of the Akademie concert that Beethoven gave in 1808, by the Southern Classical Orchestra, within the scope of the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth, which takes place on the 29th and 31st.
November reveals, on the 6th, the debut of the co-production with JAT – Janela Aberta Teatro of the play Teatro de Vizinhos, a project directed by Miguel Martins Pessoa and consultancy by Argentine Edith Scher, one of the world references of Community Theater. Still in the logic of the Community Theater, on the 21st the premiere of As Cortes de Faro takes place, which results from an order by the Teatro das Figuras to Rui Catalão.
Companhia Nacional de Bailado presents the new creations of Marco da Silva Ferreira and Filipe Portugal on the 14th. And, at the end of the month, on November 28, the highlight goes to the premiere of the play Atlântico, a co-production of the National Theater D. Maria II, Festival END (Coimbra) and Teatro das Figuras.
The year does not end without December bringing music back to Teatro das Figuras, with concerts by Aldina Duarte and Sílvia Perez Cruz & Farsa Circus Band scheduled for December 5th and 15th, respectively.
The premiere of the co-production of the play Animals Carnivores by Miguel Moreira under the direction of Rogério de Carvalho. The Companhia de Dança do Algarve in co-production with Teatro das Figuras also presents the usual Christmas show between December 17th and 20th.
