The summer program of Vila Real Theater starts on Wednesday, with the concert of the Brazilian Labaq, and includes about 40 proposals ranging from music, dance, cinema, new circus and street theater.

The Vila Real Theater today announced that it is betting on two major cycles for this quarter: “Side of summer”, which runs from July to August, and ‘Somers to Northeast’ in September.

The organization said that “the first part of the soundtrack of this summer is feminine” and “is a show of Lusophony”, especially Labaq (Brazil), Sara Tavares (Portugal), Cristina Branco, Selma Uamusse (Mozambique), Cremilda Medina (Cape Verde) and Sara Cruz (Portugal).

“They are the six female singers invited to a program that melds various musical cultures, traditional and contemporary,” said the theater.

Until the end of August, the Teatro’s programming takes place “On the side of summer” (outdoors), taking advantage of the architecture of the building and the surrounding landscape of Corgo Park. The concerts will take place in the outdoor auditorium and on the lawn next to the café-concert.

In this period the series ‘Clássicos de Verão’ (Summer Classics) also returns, an open-air festival dedicated to classical music, which in this edition highlights the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra, which intends to bring the spectators “to visit the beginnings of jazz, when it was danced in ballrooms “.

The program of this cycle intersects with the cinema and the outdoor sessions include the films: ‘The Greens Years’ by Paulo Rocha, ‘The Holidays of Mr. Hulot’ by Jacques Tati, ‘Lights of the City’, by Charlie Chaplin, and ‘Rita or Rito?’ scored by Reinaldo Ferreira.

The historic center will be the stage for the 14 shows of the ‘Arruada – Cycle de Artes de Rua’, which will be in its 4th edition and will bring to Vila Real Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Argentine companies.

The transition between summer and fall will be made with contemporary dance, in what is the 3rd edition of ‘Somres a Nordeste’, which this year takes place between 14 and 28 September.

In 2019, the festival is internationalized, also featuring companies from Spain and Brazil.

In this edition will be made a tribute to Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, in the year that marks the centennial, with two shows starring the company Dance in Dialogues and by the Portuguese Company of Contemporary Ballet.
