Yesterday started Web Summit, Europe’s largest technology conference held annually since 2009. The company was founded by Paddy Cosgrave, David Kelly, and Daire Hickey. The conference theme focuses on internet technology and attendees range from Fortune 500 companies to small technology companies. This contains a mix of CEOs and founders of technology start-ups together with a number of people from the global technology industry.
The day was marked by the intervention of Edward Snowden, the main guest who spoke by video conference as he is living in Russia, where he fled after revealing confidential information and being sought by US justice. The evening also marked the presence of Michelle Zatlyn (Cloudflare), Daniela Braga (DefinedCrowd), Guo Ping (Huawei), Jaden Smith (501CTHREE.org & JUST water), Gary White (Water.org & WaterEquity), Paul O’Callaghan (BlueTech Research), Laurie Segall (Dot Dot Dot Media).
By the end of the conferences and conversations, Paddy Cosgrave was joined by the Portuguese politicians Pedro Siza Vieira(Minister of State), and Fernando Medina (Mayor of Lisbon), for the official Opening Ceremony.
