The oldest amateur theater festival opens in Evora on Friday

Six shows and the launch of a book make up the program of the 25th edition of the Festival of Theater of Amadores of Évora (FESTAE), considered the oldest of its kind in the country, which begins on Friday.

The historic festival, which had its first edition in 1965, runs until the 29th of this month and is organized by Joaquim António d’Aguiar’s Society of Education and Recreation (SOIR).

“From theater, amateur or professional, through poetry, with the presentation of the latest work by Filipe Chinita, and still by the puppets, FESTAE continues to assert itself as an important cultural brand in the territory,” said the organization today.

The seven initiatives scheduled for the 10 days of this 25th edition of the event, according to SOIR, are distributed in various spaces in the city of Évora.

The poster launches on Friday with “Augustine and Felicity”, a street theater show and animated forms by the group Boca de Cão, in the Giraldo Square, at 17:30.

“H2Ode” from the “Ode Marítima” by Álvaro de Campos, in a co-production of the Harmonia Eborense Society and the Boys of Graça_Artwork Creation Platform, is the proposal for the 23rd at 9:30 pm at SOIR headquarters.

At FESTAE, on the 24th, at 9:30 pm, at Teatro Garcia de Resende, the comedy “Fantasmas?” Will be included, based on a text by the Italian playwright Eduardo de Filippo, in a co-production of the Évora Drama Center ( Cendrev) and TEatroensaio, from Porto, which debuted earlier this month in Évora.

“Red Eu – Colectiva.mente por esse Alentejo a.fora”, the 10th book of poetry written by Filipe Chinita, is released on the 25th at 6:30 pm in the SOIR.

The next day, The Bubble – Theater Company with Puppets promises to enchant “kids and adults” with shows at the headquarters of the parishes of Malagueira (10:30) and Bacelo (18:30), adapting texts by Hans Christian Andersen.

The show also includes the show “My more … Marionettes”, which the company Trulé – Investigation of Animated Forms presents on the 27th, at 15:30, at the headquarters of the Humanity and Respect Elderly Association of Évora

The 25th FESTAE will end on the 29th at 9:30 PM with the most recent theatrical production of the SOIR performing group Joaquim António d’Aguiar, “The Carrera Rifles” by Bertolt Brecht.

The Festival of Amadores Theater of Evora has the support of the chamber, the Regional Directorate of Culture of Alentejo and various parishes of the city.
