This “is a high moment” of Luso-Angolan relations

The prime minister said today that the visit to Portugal of Angolan President João Lourenço is “a high moment” in Portuguese-Angolan relations and he said he hopes to materialize the process of certification of debts to Portuguese companies.

António Costa took this position in declarations to journalists in Monsanto, Lisbon, before presiding at the award ceremony of Bartolomeu de Gusmão to distinguish scientific innovation.

For the Prime Minister, the State visit that the President of Angola will make to Portugal, between the 22nd and 24th of this month, “will be an opportunity” to carry out several processes, namely “the work already started in September in Angola, in debt certification. ”

Asked if the problem of the debts of the Angolan state to Portuguese companies is solved, António Costa said that “it is in progress”.

“What is being done was fundamental to restoring confidence, without which the investment of Portuguese companies could be affected – and it was important that it was not, because the economic relationship between the two countries is very important,” said António Costa.

The prime minister then stressed that it is important “to seize this moment of economic recovery in Portugal and Angola.”

“This is really the best time to grow,” he said.

António Costa later said that the visit of the Angolan head of State to Portugal “is certainly a high point”.

“Following the visit I made to Angola last September, the presence of President João Lourenço in Portugal completes this cycle of relaunching our relations.”

According to the Portuguese prime minister, João Lourenço’s state visit “will have important moments, like in the economic seminar or in the intervention that will make in the Assembly of the Republic.”
