Three national records at the opening of the Worlds Short Pool

Gabriel Lopes national records in the 100 meters back, Miguel Nascimento in the 100 free and the 4×100 free men’s match today marked the Portuguese participation in the short swimming pool World Championships in Hangzhou, China.

On the first day of the competition, Gabriel Lopes surpassed his Portugal record in the 100 meters back, finishing 17th in 51.48 seconds, finishing in the semi-finals among 48 registered swimmers.

Miguel Nascimento was linked to obtaining the other two records. The Benfica was at an excellent level, surpassing the absolute national record of the 100 free during the first course of the 4×100 free coup with 47.61 seconds, a maximum that belonged to Alexandre Agostinho (47.64) since 2009 in Istanbul, Turkey.

The quartet that finished to beat the absolute national record, when securing the 10th place in the 4×100 freestyle, with the time of 3.15.56 minutes, was formed, besides Miguel Nascimento (47,61 seconds, national record), for Gabriel Lopes (48,14), Diogo Carvalho (50,33) and Alexis Santos (49,48).

Miguel Nascimento had been the first element of the selection to participate in the Worlds of the short swimming pool (25 meters), in the 400 free meters, finishing in the 17th place, with 3.44,79 minutes, among 41 enrolled.

In the 200 meters styles, Diogo Carvalho (Galitos) was 10th (1.54,34 minutes), close to his national record of 1.53.45, among 43 entries. The final qualifying round closed at 1.53.69. For his part, Alexis Santos (Sporting) was 13th with 1.54.71 minutes, improving the personal record (1.54.85).

In women’s participation, Diana Durães was 23rd in the 200m freestyle with 1.59.30 minutes, out of 56 registered, less than a second of her national record (1.58,62).

The Benfica athlete returned to the swimming pool to swim the 400-meter style, where she recorded 4.39.81 minutes (20th place), in an event where teammate Vitória Kaminskaya was 17. (4.38,49), among 30 registered, and the final qualifying round closed at 4.31.13.
