Three Portuguese in the main frames of the Hong Kong Open
The Portuguese Fu Yu and the pair Tiago Apolónia/João Monteiro qualified today for the main frame of the Hong Kong Open, proof of the World circuit of table tennis.
In the preliminary rounds of female singles, Fu Yu went 4-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-4, 11-9) to the Indian Madhurika Patkar and 4-3 (3-11, 11- 6, 11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6) to Kim Hayeong.
At the same stage of the competition, Jieni Shao did not make it to the mainframe, having lost with the Dutch Jie Li 4-0 (4-11, 9-11, 10-12, 9-11), after having imposed on Indian Archana Girish Kamath by 4-1 (11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10 and 11-9)
In the variant of male pairs, Tiago Apolónia and João Monteiro made it to the main frame of the event by defeating Italians Mihai Bobocica and Niagol Stoyanov 3-0 (11-8, 13-11, 11-9).
Portugal was out of the mixed-pairs competition, after Tiago Apolónia and Jieni Shao lost with French pair Tristan Flore/Laura Gasnier 3-2 (11-8, 4-11, 8-11,11-6, 9- 11).
