Portuguese driver set the new 2-minute mark and 01.84 seconds on the Portuguese track: “We smashed the record.”
Tiago Monteiro beats the record of the Circuit of Estoril for a production car. At the wheel of the Honda Civic Type R, the Portuguese rider set the new mark by 2m01.84s for the 4.2km long runway.
“We came here with the aim of breaking the previous record, but you can never give anything for granted – I mean it’s a record back and not an easy task. You have to have supreme confidence in the car to attack Estoril and the new Type R is very powerful, smooth and gives confidence. We beat the lap record, we actually smashed the record, “said Tiago Monteiro.
Estoril’s new record is the fourth of five qualifying track records for the Type R Challenge 2018. The 315-horsepower sports car has already beaten Magny-Cours, Spa-Francorchamps and Silverstone brands, according to Honda. Now there is Hungaroring.
