The piece ‘Overload’ by the Italian company Soterraneo, which debuted world-wide last October at the D. Maria II National Theater in Lisbon, is nominated for the UBU UBU 2018 Award for Best Show of the Year, it was announced today.
In the list of nominees of the Ubu 2018 Prize, in the category of Best New Foreign Text or Dramatic Writing, is also Tiago Rodrigues, for his text ‘Sadness and joy in the life of giraffes’, according to the statement today released by the National Theater D. Maria II.
Co-produced by D. Maria II, ‘Overload’ was part of the Newborn Cycle, which focuses on projects of young companies and creators.
The Italian show focuses on the background noise of our days and attention as a form of alienation.
As for the text by Tiago Rodrigues, ‘Sadness and joy in the life of giraffes’, was presented for the first time at Culturgest in 2011, in a production of the company Mundo Perfeito.
The text premiered this year in Italy, in a performance taken by the company Big Action Money, entitled “Gioie and dolori nella vita delle giraffe”.
Created in 1977 by the critic Franco Quadri, and currently organized by the Associazione Ubu per Franco Quadri, the Ubu Prize is considered to be the most prestigious theater award in Italy.
The winners are announced in January in Milan.
