Tourism revenues up 12% by August to 11 billion

Tourist revenues grew 12.2% between January and August this year, compared to the same period in 2017, to more than 11 billion euros, according to data released today by the Bank of Portugal (BdP).

Up to August, tourism exports amounted to 11,109 million euros, up 12.2% from the first eight months of 2017, according to the Balance of Payments data released by the central bank today.

The tourism sector accounted for more than half of services revenues in Portugal, which amounted to € 21,119 million (up 6.9% year-on-year) in August.

Imports of tourism increased by 8.1% to 3,141 million euros.
