The flying car was shown in a public test this weekend, on a piloted flight that ended without a hitch. The trip lasted for four minutes and the car remained at a height of one to two meters from the ground.
The SD-03 is reported to be the smallest electric vehicle in the world to be able to make vertical take-offs and landings. SkyDrive believes that this is a new form of transportation for those with a more urban lifestyle. Altogether, the device has eight rotors that help you move safely, even in the event of a sudden engine problem.
Despite the test, it may still be many years before we can see this vehicle in the hands of an ordinary consumer. The company is still waiting for authorization to be able to drive the SD-03 out of the testing field, but it should not arrive before the end of 2020.
Within three years, Toyota and SkyDrive are expected to have a ready commercial model with two seats. The date is in line with Japan’s plans to launch a flying taxi service.
