The UDJAT is an ensemble inspired by the Mediterranean musical heritage, with a repertoire of originals in which we identify the Iberian and Eastern roots, but also the Jewish heritage. The group operates at the Ismaili Center on December 14.
UDJAT ensemble are Sofia Sousa Claro (Composer, Vocals, small percussions), Hugo Claro (Composer, Portuguese Guitar; Mandolin, Vocals) and guest artist Jorge Machado (Percussions, Overtone Singing)
Their music conveys ancient sounds with a modern approach. The symbiosis between vocals, Portuguese guitar and percussions allows an intense path, full of rhythm, where contrasts create moments of bliss and meditation, leading us through time in a lament of longing (saudade) and the hope of returning to one’s origins. UDJAT released their first album “Udjat” in 2016, and the second “Ameretat” in the year 2017, with the special participation of the percussionist Hugo Tristão.
UDJAT performed in stages such as Olga Cadaval in Sintra, Portugal, and the Iberian Festival Awards2017, in Barcelona, Spain, Islamic Festival of Mértola, MED Festival, Terra(s) de Sefarad, among others.
