University of Coimbra to collaborate with the UN Atomic Energy Agency

The collaboration was made official last week, in a videoconference ceremony held from the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is located in Vienna, Austria.

The conference was attended by UC dean Amílcar Falcão, ICNAS director Antero Abrunhosa, Najat Mokhtar, deputy director and head of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Science and Applications and Melissa Denecke, director of the IAEA Physical and Chemical Sciences Division .

The agreement provides for formal collaboration between two institutions, for a period of four renewable years, in the fields of production, research and development of radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals.

In particular, ICNAS will assume a dual role of advising the Agency and committees of experts and participating in international training programs.

In addition to ICNAS, collaborating centers of the International Atomic Energy Agency in the area of ​​radioisotope production and radiation technology are the national institutes of nuclear sciences and technologies in France, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland and the USA.
