The Portuguese Language Prize is an annual Portuguese language writing competition for Timorese students, between 18 and 24 years of age. Since it was launched in 2013, the award has allowed 15 young Timorese students to travel to universities in Macau and Portugal.
Innocence Merelis do Rosário Osório, a fourth-year student at the Department of Portuguese Language at the UNTL Faculty of Education, was ranked first, with the short story “Builai in the blue sea”.
The runner-up was Gerson Armindo da Silva Leite Araújo, a fifth-year student at UNTL Law School, with the text “Henrique in a country from another world”.
The two winners will attend summer courses in Portuguese Language and Culture at a university in Portugal, lasting one month and all expenses paid. The three other candidates, who stayed in the following places, will receive Portuguese courses, to be held at the Fundação Oriente Delegation in Dili.
