7/9 FEB | “Vicente, The Myth in Lisbon”

Exhibitions
Museum of Lisbon – Pimenta Palace Campo Grande 245 – Lisbon

The exhibition “Vicente, O Mito em Lisboa” will transform the Museum of Lisbon – Pimenta Palace into a city with eight hermitages.
Parts of the Museum mix with contemporary artworks and explore the various dimensions of life and legend of Lisbon’s historic patron.

Dedicated to the current myth of S. Vicente, the exhibition – co-produced by the Lisbon Museum and the Travessa da Ermida Project – is curated by Mário Caeiro and the architectural work of the [CLAN] atelier.
In it, various dimensions and lines of investigation of the Vincentian myth are traversed through various objects and artistic languages, works of sculpture, performance, installation, painting, video, drawing, illustration, text, among others.

References from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries dialogue with contemporary artistic works and interventions presented over the last eight years in the homonymous project of Travessa da Ermida, or created for this exhibition, by artists as distinguished as Xana, João Ribeiro, Miguel Januário, André Banha, Dominik Lejman, Simeon Nelson, Jana Matejkova, Régis Perray, Alessandro Lupi, Marta Soares, Isabel Baraona, among others.

The Lisbon Museum promotes initiatives parallel to the exhibition, such as guided tours, a performative journey, conversations with experts in various fields and, on March 16, the launch of the illustrated book Vicente. Symbol of Lisbon. Contemporary Myth, composed by essays by authors like José Tolentino Mendonça, José Eduardo Franco, José Sarmento de Matos, Pedro Picoito; and a preface by Peter Hanenberg and afterword by António de Castro Caeiro.

There are many peripécias of martyrdom and the list of miracles that are associated with S. Vicente … the various authors of this Project have each seen his Vicente
