The German company Volkswagen today inaugurated a new software development centre in Lisbon, which will lead to the hiring of 300 IT specialists, without revealing the value of the investment.
In a statement, the German brand said that the new centre will “develop software primarily for the digital ecosystems and internal corporate processes of the group,” the third such structure being within the group and the first outside Germany (the others are in Wolfsburg and in Berlin).
“Of the total of 300 specialists who will be hired,” mainly in the Portuguese labour market, one third should work on cloud-based services specifically for the commercial vehicle sector for MAN Truck & Bus, “he says.
“As an IT location, the Lisbon metropolitan area has an affinity for digital materials, a closely-knit startup network and technology companies, and a high-performance academic environment with highly qualified graduates,” the statement said.
Martin Hoffman, head of the German automotive developer for IT, said that “software development for new digital services will become a core competency for Volkswagen.”
The teams working in these centres focus on “value-added services for the digital ecosystems of the brands, such as the” We “services of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. Relevant safety structures, including those required for client profile authentication for these services or the encryption of databases, are also developed, “he told Volkswagen.
