The Portuguese Rafael Reis (Caja Rural) today defended the leadership of the Volta a Portugal by bike, in the first stage, linking Alcácer do Sal to Albufeira, with a total of 191.8 kilometers.
After being the fastest in the prologue in Setúbal, Rafael Reis leaves for the first one with two seconds to advance over Cesar Martingil (Liberty Seguros-Carglass) and three over the Danish Louis Bendixen (Coop).
The actual departure of the stage is scheduled for 12:45 in Alcácer do Sal, on a day when the temperature can reach 44 degrees in that city of the district of Setúbal.
The first flying goal of the 80th edition of the Volta a Portugal will be installed in Grândola, 20.6 kilometers after the start, shortly before the cyclists attacked the first category of the fourth category in Santa Margarida da Serra (29, 4).
Shortly after the middle of the stage will be installed two more counts of fourth category, at 98 and 103.8 kilometers, this one in Odemira, with the last count of mountain to be in Portela de Messines (171,6).
In the goal, installed on Avenida dos Descobrimentos in Albufeira, there will be no bonuses, so in case of arrival in a compact squad, Rafael Reis ‘will not be enough’ to waste time to keep the yellow.
