The 27th Wine Festival starts on Saturday, in Borba, in the Évora district, with the participation of 85 exhibitors, highlighting the Alentejo producers, the municipality announced today.

The fair, dedicated to wine and vineyards, which receives thousands of visitors every year, will run until the 18th of this month, in the pavilion of events of the city, with free entrance, to promote, above all, Alentejo wines, with the participation of producers who present their brands for tasting and sale.

The president of the municipality of Borba, António Anselmo, told Lusa today that the event intends to promote ‘Borba and the Alentejo’, as well as regional wines, gastronomy and regional products, handicrafts and culture.

“It’s a party of fun and entertainment that we hope will continue to be successful,” said the mayor.

The festival, which serves as a presentation of the new local wine producers by the São Martinho, includes a set of wine and wine tourism, gastronomy, regional products and sweets, handicrafts and winemaking equipment and services.

The handicraft has exhibitors from various localities of the country, in the most diverse expressions, such as clay, tapestry, wood and cork.

With a stage in one of the most important wine regions of Alentejo, the contest is in charge of the Municipality, Technical Association of Alentejo Winemakers (ATEVA), Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA) and Regional Tourism Authority of Alentejo and Ribatejo.

The program includes a circuit of the taverns on the opening day and, during the nine days, it includes wine tastings, performance of popular music groups, Alentejo choirs and philharmonic bands, meeting of skirt singers, São Martinho village, meeting of tunas , street entertainment, colloquia, sports activities, young dance and the allegorical procession ‘Borba, The Vine and Wine’, on the closing day.

The musical poster, with free admission, includes performances by Quinta do Bill (Saturday), Toy (16th), Fernando Daniel (17), shows at 11:00 PM, and the Army Light Orchestra, on closing day, at 17:00, besides animation with several DJs.
