The Portuguese futsal team, already qualified for the 2020 FIFA World Cup qualifying round, made it their Sunday full Group 8 Main Round victory by defeating the Czech Republic counterpart 4-1.
The European champion justified this status in the game that took place at Pavilhão Multiusos de Viseu and, at the break, already won 2-1 in this third and final match of the group with goals from Bruno Coelho, at 12 minutes, Ricardinho, at 18 and 40, and Pany Varela at 34, with Seidler scoring the Czechs’ lone goal at 15.
Portugal, which had previously beaten Latvia (4-0) on Thursday, and Germany (5-0) on Friday, completed the 100% Group 8 race ahead of the Czech Republic – also winner of the first two games and qualified in advance – while Germany and Latvia were eliminated at this stage.
In the Elite round, the winners of each of the four poules will go straight to the World Cup, while the runners-up will play a play-off to find the other qualifying European teams. The draw for this phase is scheduled for November 7 in Nyon, Switzerland.
The final round of the 2020 World Cup will take place in Lithuania from 12 September to 4 October in the cities of Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.
