XIV International Festival of the Iberian Mask 🗓 🗺

From 16 to 19 May the International Mask Festival of Iberia (FIMI) will present four days of true animation in the Garden of the Square of the Empire in Belém! Between caretos, revelers and masked is guaranteed one of the biggest events involving the ancestral tradition of mask rituals.

In this 14th edition of FIMI, and with the integration of the Inatel Foundation as one of the organizers of the festival (in partnership with Progestur, EGEAC – Câmara Municipal de Lisboa), a strong commitment will be made to the program, with workshops, exhibitions, dances traditional shows, debates, music shows, regional products shows, handicraft workshops, children’s animation and even various street entertainments with groups of masks from Portugal, Spain, China, Colombia, Hungary, Italy, Wales and Uruguay .

On May 18, the highlight of the festival, the Great Parade of the Iberian Mask is scheduled, which this year will have more than 50 groups of masks and around 700 participants.

In the 14th edition, the musical component will also be strengthened and the Iberian Stage will once again bring folk rhythms of traditional European roots, combined with other fusion elements. In addition to the performances of the Iberian Stage, we will also have a second stage dedicated to the performances of groups of traditional culture and children’s animation.

Before the XIV FIMI begins, there are already several activities scheduled to take place within the scope of the event, with special emphasis on the two photographic exhibitions on the mask – “Parade with the Mask – Lisbon 2019” and “Behind the Mask” – which will inaugurate on May 9, at the Centro Cultural Casapiano, an initiative that intends to highlight the plasticity and artistic richness of the Mask’s patrimony.

Come and discover the magic of the mask, from May 16 to 19 in Belem! Every day from 10:30 am with free entry!
